About the Librarian, Mrs. Grindle
I'm a Texas native: born in Amarillo and I lived there until I graduated from Amarillo High School, "Blow, Sand, Blow". I moved to Austin after I graduated and went to school at The University of Texas. I graduated with an education degree and taught middle school for 2 years in Spring ISD and 5 years in Austin ISD. While teaching in Austin, I went back to The University of Texas to graduate school and received a Masters in Library and Information Science. The most common question I get asked is, "You have to have a Masters to be a librarian?" And the answer is yes, because there is so much to organize and manage. You'd be surprised at how much more we do than just read books.
I have been a librarian in Round Rock ISD since 1999 and love reading and sharing that love with students as well asusing technology. My mission is to get kids excited about the library and reading. I want students to learn how to be information literate in this new technology age. My goal is to encourage students to use the library and have fun while they are there so they will continue to be life long learners and library patrons wherever they are.
I have used a SmartBoard for most of my lessons and really try to give the students a chance to participate whenever I can. By using the smartboard it seems to grab the students' attention and it also helps them use their many intelligences, including tactile, as well listen and become engaged.
This past year I was able to participate in the Next Generation Digital Classroom. It was an honor to be chosen. Our library was equipped with 45 Samsung Galaxy Tablets and 1 Digital Display screen. It has truly been the biggest challenge of my career but I have learned so much about applying technology in the library with students and I so look forward to using them again this year and continuing the growth in technology.
My Family
I have 2 children that have attended Great Oaks since they were babies and now they are all grown up, well for the most part. I started at Great Oaks the year I had my daughter in 2001. I've been married for 21 years to one of the funniest people I know. I feel blessed to have a family that supports me and gets to be involved in Round Rock ISD. My daughter now attends Round Rock High School and my son goes to Walsh Middle School.
I love Round Rock and I love the library! Stop in to visit us in the library! And feel free to ask any questions you would like. See you soon!
