Author visits, National Library Week, Snapshot Day and much more...
2012-2013
National Library WeekApril 15-19 we celebrated the library. Students were able to participate in a poetry contest, they also received a bookmark and a coupon for an extra book to check out and they could also come to the library to fill out a shelf talker. Students turned in pictures of themselves reading in their favorite spot. Students who participated in the poetry contest were able to sign up to help at the poetry reading on May 21st from 5:30-6:30 p.m. !
A big thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate National Library Week. There were over 300 poems turned in. How cool is that! Winners of the poetry contest were announced but anyone who wrote a poem can come to the poetry reading or sign up to help at the poetry reading on May 21st from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Ben taught students three powerful tools in creating comics and graphic novels. He had an engaging presentation where students could learn to create a story with 2 pictures. He also taught us the power of gestures and how to draw to life. The students enjoyed his presentation and were completely engaged. Ben is now working on a picture book for younger students. On October 4th, teachers could read the book Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad so that we can help reach a record of helping children read. Click on the book to get to the website.
Phil Bildner coming to Great OaksPhil visited our school on Thursday, September 13th to meet with 4th graders about writing. Check out his webpage for more on Phil: http://philbildner.com/. Phil talked to the students about the importance of reading, writing, and editing. The students enjoyed his fast paced presentation and sat mesmerized for one hour.

2011-2012
was April 9-13th. Students took pictures reading in a special spot and turned them into the library to share with the school. Each child receivee a bookmark and coupon to check out an extra book. And each staff member and student was invited to recommend a book to the school and post it in the library.

Skype visit with Todd ParrWe had a skype visit with the author for 1st & 2nd grade on Wednesday, February 29th.

Skype visit with Tom AngelbergerOur 5th graders were able to skype with Tom Angelberger on December 7, 2011. He was this year's winner of the 2012 Bluebonnet Award.

Liz Scanlon - Author VisitLiz Scanlon is a local author and she visited our school on December 1st. Every student had a chance to see her and order her books. Liz also has a link for curriculum guides if you would like to learn more.

Library Snapshot Day
On October 21st our library participated in a day to see what students are doing in our library. Students came in and answered questions about their library.
